The Conference

 

The 2024 APLEC Conference will bring together professional legal educators from Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific to discuss how post graduate professional legal education can best prepare a new generation of lawyers for a rapidly evolving profession.

Call for Papers

 

We now invite expressions of interest in presenting a paper.

Priority will be given to papers related to the theme ‘Next Gen Law’ including papers addressing skills,values and ethics for the future of practice, approaches to teaching Gen Z and future focus in practice and PLT more generally.

Abstracts should be approximately 250 words in length and submitted by Friday 4 October 2024.

Papers should be no longer than 20 minutes plus 10 minutes for questions.

Keynote Speakers

 

We are pleased to announce our keynote speakers:

  • Jordan Furlong will address the future of legal practice in an increasingly global and AI enabled profession, discussing the kinds of skills new lawyers will need to be effective practitioners and the ways the profession will need to adapt to ensure its relevance and sustainability.

Jordan is a strategic consultant to legal organisations in Canada and the United States, a forecaster and analyst of trends and developments in the global legal market.

  • Tania Leiman will address new generations of law students and graduates, what makes Generation Z unlike other learners, how we can best prepare them to become Australian Lawyers, and work with them to unlock their unique value.

Tania is the Dean of Law at Flinders University, having pioneered the introduction in 2020 of Flinders Law’s innovative undergraduate law curriculum. Tania is the current Vice Chair (Legal Education), of the Council of Australian Law Deans and a teaching specialist in clinical legal education.
