How does a Leo Organised Placement Work?

Thinking About a Leo-Organised Placement? Here’s How We Make It Easy

Choose Your Placement Path

After starting your course, you’ll have two flexible placement options to suit your needs:

  • Self-organise: You take the lead in finding a placement that fits your schedule and preferences. This can be done at any time during or after your course.
  • Leo Cussen-organised: Let us take care of the details. We’ll arrange a placement that aligns with your career interests and preferences.

Within the first few weeks of your course, you’ll meet with our experienced Placement Team. This session will cover everything you need to know about both placement options. You’ll learn how each works, the benefits of each approach, and the support available to help you decide which option is best for you.

If you opt for Leo Cussen to organise your placement, you’ll complete a comprehensive preference form. This form gathers information about:

  • Your preferred locations
  • The types of organisations you’d like to experience, such as community legal centres, government bodies, or private law firms.
  • Your interests in specific areas of law, like family law, commercial law, or criminal law.

This ensures your placement aligns with your personal and professional aspirations.

Our Placement Team will use your preferences to work closely with our trusted network of placement host partners. With a broad range of organisations available, we aim to match you with an opportunity that suits your goals, giving you an enriching and relevant experience.

For those who choose a Leo Cussen-organised placement, your placement is scheduled after you complete your coursework. This allows you to fully focus on your Practical Legal Training without the added stress of arranging or balancing a placement during your studies.

Before your placement begins, we’ll provide you with all the guidance and preparation you need. From answering questions about the host organisation to setting clear expectations for the experience, we’ll ensure you feel confident and ready to thrive in your placement.

Your placement involves a 15-day full-time commitment in a professional legal environment. Under the supervision of an experienced lawyer, you’ll gain:

  • Hands-on exposure to real-world legal work.
  • The chance to develop your practical skills in a supportive setting.
  • Insights into the daily operations of a legal practice and invaluable networking opportunities.
This immersive experience is designed to bridge the gap between your studies and your legal career.
