The support you receive at Leo Cussen during Practical Legal Training (PLT) is fundamental to begin working as a legal practitioner. Along with mentor support, you are provided with support from our dedicated careers team. In this blog, we focus on the support you receive for PLT placements.
At the end of the PLT course, all students must complete a professional placement within a legal office. Your PLT placement becomes an exciting opportunity to put all your training into practice and play an active role in real matters and cases.
15-days professional placement
The PLT Program at Leo Cussen is comprehensive and full of simulated legal work. So, you are only required to do 15 days (20 days in WA) placement.
You have two options to organise your professional placement:
- Arrange your own placement with support from us.
- As an added option, we can find and organise your placement. Book a chat with us to learn more about this option.
You can complete your placement at law firms, community legal centres, government departments or in-house legal teams. For more information, check out the placement guidelines.
Ongoing support
For many PLT students, the professional placement is your first time working in a real-life legal office. Many PLT placements give students a chance to meet with clients, attend court hearings and draft actual legal documents.
The careers and placement team at Leo Cussen is made up of qualified advisors with legal and recruitment backgrounds. They will ensure preparation for your placement is not just a tick in a box and you leave Leo Cussen with the best chance of a career path that suits you.
Our careers team also assist with:
